    Exhaust to Gimbal Connection

OK, that's what I referred to as the shifter cable in my post. I replaced it 2 years ago so all good. Thanks for the clarification.

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

FYI... got an answer from the engine forum. It's 92-25234 Sound blanket glue, but this has been superseded by Bellows adhesive 86166Q1. It's in the materials list in the manual but not in the actual instructions.

    Exhaust to Gimbal Connection

Thanks! I also see it now in the materials list but no mention of it in the instructions. There was a good bit of whatever was on it originally (I assume it was the sound blanket glue) so I'll do the same with bellows adhesive. I've replaced the shifter cable, bellows, piping, etc so should be...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

Have not cleaned up the surfaces yet but no obvious issues. I'll get the surfaces cleaned up this weekend and recheck for issues. I posted over in the engine forum as well.

    Exhaust to Gimbal Connection

I'm getting towards the end of a restore on a '95 Crownline (see thread) and have a question about the exhaust connection to the gimbal housing. The service manual does not show any kind of adhesive or liquid gasket being applied but mine clearly had something applied. I have the replacement...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

The Permatex ultra blue is rated to 400 so I would hope that is plenty high enough. I guess I'll do it dry and cross my fingers. Service manual doesn't say to use anything so it makes sense. The fact that there was something on it is what got my attention.

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

Starting to clean up the gimbal housing, transom plate, etc and getting all the new gaskets, etc on order. Regarding the exhaust pipe connection to the gimbal housing, I'm ordering a new gasket but there was clearly some type of "liquid gasket" used as well. I don't see anything in the service...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

Took a vacation and got behind on posting. Completed the gel coating on the engine area. Did a dry fit on the the gimbal housing and had to do a bit of grinding on a small part of the keyhole to get it fitted properly. Next step is to re-attach the front section that was cut out to access...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

Starting to think more about the engine now that the inside is getting close to done. One thing I'm looking at is adding an oil drain hose. I'm assuming the idea is to connect it to the oil pan in the drain plug hole, then run it through the garboard drain to empty the oil when changing. I see...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

Last night was gel coat time. Covered everything except the bilge and transom which I'll do next. Did 3 coats, mostly with a 9" roller. There are a couple of spots I'm not 100% happy with which I'll sand and touch up when I do the bilge. Overall, pleased with the outcome. Plan is to put SeaDek...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

Got all the floor mounted items for seat pedestals, battery, hydro pump, etc glassed in over the weekend. I've decided to use 1" square aluminum extrusions to build a frame for the sidewalls next to the engine and the frame that holds up the cushioned hatch above the engine compartment...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

Dry fitting the gimbal housing and the transom plate are coming up on the agenda. New gaskets are on their way. Fingers crossed... I was also looking at the drain plug. It appears there is some kind of sealing material was around it but it wasn't a gasket of any kind. Is it just sealed with...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

The bases are 2 - 3/4" marine plywood (left overs from my stringers) glued together. I'm going to use 1.5" screws going down into the base and put 5200 on them. The holes in the pedestal are 3/8" so there will be 6 heavy duty screws holding it down. I thought about doing the bolt through but...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

I thought about doing something similar at first. But I was having nightmares about screwing it up and having to do a major transom fix so I dropped the $25 on the guide.
