    Speedometer Not Working

I have never been on a body of water that required me to know how fast I am going. The choices have always been “no wake” or do what you want. I use the GPS on my phone or other handheld GPS unit on the rare occasion I get curious.

Splicing two 1” square Bimini tubes

I agree. Inner sleeve and attach with your favorite method. We had one break. I thought the welder would sleeve it but he just did a butt weld and stitched it back together.

This doesn’t look right to me

I was looking at hub kits this morning. I’m fairly certain they installed a Honda hub with a Mercury nut. The dealer sells both brands. Other things this dealer has done: Left SeaStar linkage finger tight. Rigged a motor so it made contact with hull when tilted full up. Connected systems that...

This doesn’t look right to me

I don’t have the serial number handy. New boat last year so I would guess 2024 or 2025 model 150 EFI.

This doesn’t look right to me

Mercury manuals all show a tabbed washer arrangement. Every prop and/hub kit I have bought for a 150 Mercury had tabbed washers. I really should call the service manager or store owner and tell them all the crap I find on the boats they deliver. The list is long. I think they installed prop...

Replacing water pump impeller for first time

I have a wooden bench that I added 2 spacers and a 2x4 to create a gap to hold the skeg for working on the lower unit. I also welded up an adjustable u-stand I mounted to the end of a work bench. I have simply set the lower unit on the back of my pickup. The skeg will slide in between the...

    150 EFI throttle linkage

Does anyone have a fix for the throttle rod popping coming out of the lower fitting? This is the vertical rod behind the intake. It was doing it about 5 years ago and a certified Mercury mechanic told they all pop out if someone does a panic stop. About the forth time it happened I replaced the...

Replacing water pump impeller for first time

Thanks, good info for those of us who haven’t seen one. I forgot 2 of the motors I owned about 20 years ago. Both were 2-stroke. One was a Johnson V-4 on a Stratus bass boat and the other was a Mariner 90 on a pontoon boat. The Mariner needed the main harness connecter reset about every other...

Replacing water pump impeller for first time

Must be an old Mercury thing. The gear selected has never had a bearing on anything I owned with power trim. My first one was a 35 or 40 hp Johnson in the early to mid nineties. Replaced it with a new Force. Then an Evinrude and now a Yamaha. They all tilted full up no matter where the shifter...

Replacing water pump impeller for first time

Yep, I know all of that. I can’t reach the flywheel while holding a lower unit and rotating the prop shaft is a lot easier and faster than rigging up something special. I mostly work on 150-250 hp four strokes and my F70. I have gotten to where I have to use a jack to get the 250 back together...

Replacing water pump impeller for first time

The splines never line up for me if I leave it in neutral and when it is in neutral there is no way to line up the splines. I leave them in gear so I can align the splines by turning the prop shaft. Tilting it up to use the motor latch is a safety thing that cannot be done on a lot of pontoon...

    150 EFI low oil pressure

That’s what I was thinking (except ECM bit). I recommended 2 local Mercury shops to the manager. The one on the lake is at least a month wait but the other one 30 miles away is likely have it done in a week or so. He will probably ignore me and take it to the dealer 70 miles away where they...

    150 EFI low oil pressure

Again, There were no saved faults nor active faults on the techmate. It’s not some random toy I picked up for a one time use. As far as the control goes, if that button is the problem, it can go back to the dealer. I would think it would still be under warranty. Judging from what I have seen...

    Removing water from gas

Alcohol absorbs water. Doing what you suggest puts more water in the fuel. Putting some water and some fuel in a clear container, marking the line where the two meet, shaking the container and letting it settle will lower the water line indicating alcohol in the fuel if there is alcohol present...

This doesn’t look right to me

Mercury 150 EFI. It looks like I have a proper hub kit for it. The nut was loose. Not so the prop rattled but nowhere near the 55.3 lbs feet the book calls for. This boat would have been delivered this way from the store. The same store that I complain about the most.
