This is a '91, 150hp that wont start, looks like its getting good spark, but could tell if gas was getting to it yet. I know nothing about this engine. I would greatly appreciate ANY / ALL help with this.
1)How do you find yr made & if it is A or B model?
2) what are the most common problems w/ this motor ( just most inherant ones )
3) I was told ":Force" will just be a money pit..??? I know all boats are, but Force is more often the others.

I thank you for your time..... Im stuck on land & no fish in my well....

If motor is new to you get the compression tested first. No point dumping money into it if the motor is fried.

Welcome to iboats.

Here is the ignition system for the 91B and later models.
It has a switchbox and black coils.

Here is the ignition for the 89 thru 91A models.
It has 3 blue cd modules, and 5 blue coils.

The only id on that motor was on a id plate on the side of the transom bracket.

The 150 was not a very good motor.
Problems with balanced fuel flow for all 5 cylinders, caused many problems. And the ignition system was prone to failure, primarily the cd modules.

Start with compression and spark tests on all 5 cylinders.

Then, if they check out ok, go through the fuel system.
Replace the fuel hose, rebuild the fuel pumps, clean/rebuild the carbs, get a manual and do a thorough sync and link of the carbs timing advance.
And get yourself a few cans of Seafoam Deep Creep and run them thru the motor.

Re: 150hp 91 new to me wont start

looks like it wasnt getting enuf gas. Fixed gas problem. ( It was leaking back thru bulb ).Batteries died while trying to start it. They were freshly charged last nite. They seem to be draining fast. They are Marine Optimas dual set up. We tried jumping them, & it still wouldn't start. Does this motor really need that much juice to crank it over? Or, am I doing some little thing wrong? I might have flooded it now? next step is what? Im good with Electrical, but motors are not my my strong point. Trying to post pone sending it to mechanic. I don't know af any good ones in San Diego.

Sorry to keep saying this but test the compression. A tester cost is about 30 dollars. You can spend hundreds of dollars in ignition parts and rebuild kits and after dumping all that money if you find you have a burned out cylinder the next bill could be over 2000 dollars.

For now take the plugs out and let it sit overnight while you recharge your batteries. Tomorrow try starting it using minimal choke and see if it will fire. Even if it does and sounds good you still should test compression.
