Can anyone tell me how to do this? I removed the 8 bolts holding it on. I been having poor performance so I did a compression test. 150psi on lower cylinder and 30psi on top cylinder. I figured I would replace rings if I can still get them and replace gaskets. I would like to get this powerhead on my workbench. I just cant figure out how to pull it off. Any links, diagrams, information would be greatly appreciated. figured I had a bad coil till I checked compression. really would like to fix it. I am a mechanic so I can understand schematics and such. please help. thanks Brian

Re: 1971 50HP 50173S Powerhead Removal troubles

I have the same motor and the same issue, except mine broke a ring on the upper cylinder and lost compression but didn't do any scarring to the cylinder at all....getting ready to do a tear down and find out some more...mine may have been caused by my fuel pump diaphrams not working properly, carbs are spotless and has been running fine up until this past weekend....Get a manual a.s.a.p. and I believe the gaskets are available I found them online under a superceded number but it says it works with motors much newer than ours so I still need to investigate..
