I posted some pictures earlier of the boat in general. I got this boat in on trade for something that was given to me so I really only have 100.00 in it... The problem is I have no clue about boats or fiberglass. I do all the maintance and repairs on my home and cars so Im sure I can do it with alittle help... By the way the guy I got it from cranked it up and ran it for approx 15min, motor seems strong and runs very smoothly idle and reved up.
1: The floor has some bad places in it. Not sure where to start to fix that... The Transom seems solid but not done the drill test yet as i have read on here

2: There are some chips on the bottom of boat that need fixing, not sure if I would just fill them in with resin or what...

3: There are some small cracks like stress cracks on the sides of boat, not sure if they are and issue or not... I have included a picture of them hoping you can see them on here in the picture...

Any help would be greatful...

Thanks, Larry

Re: 1976 Reinell 1st boat need help with repairs

judging from the 2nd picture which looks to be the floor that's cut out i would put money on it needing stringers and a transom replacement more than likely, and the chips you will need to layer in some csm with resin and then gelcoat over it, and the small cracks on the side are more than likely from age and the way that trailer supports the hull and all the rot letting the hull droop down onto it so it will need to be re gelled as well once everything else is taken care of.

But for $100 and some time and more money you can restore it and have a nice boat to enjoy, do a ton of reading and searching on here and you can find 95% of any question you will ever have without having to ask. so start cutting up some more floor and drill test the transom, motor mounts and stringers and post up your findings. a full restore is not a small job and your boat will have to be removed from the trailer to restore for sure as the trailer doesn't have adequate support.

YD: Im not sure what you are referring to when you say "Cored Hull side boat"? Everything in the boat is togather the only piece of flooring that is out is the picture I have posted where the floor gave in and was pulled out.. approx 8" x 14"...

that is a rinell.........kals custom glass out of california.....

no core.

ortho resin, chopper gun....possibly a few hand laminates over the chopped.

im guessing the long crazing is a trailer issue......but in any event.....the glass will need to be repaired before gell or it will re craze

Thank you oops for the heads up on the core issue.

The chips on the bottom look like air voids .. I would fill them with gel paste and spot spray them with gel.

The deck is the deck.. you have to remove all the bad wood and put new wood in there ( I cant tell if you need a full floor job or not from your pics ).

Yes .. please investigate your stringers and transom as soon as possible.

As far as the stress cracks on the side .. well I would grind and re-enforce the inside at that location with some mat and 1708 if possible. Then repair the outside ( you may need a layer or two of mat on the outside..or just die grind the cracks and fill them with some glass putty. Dunno until you start grinding into them ).

YD.
