recently purchased a new project boat, it's a 97 celebrity 180 with the 3.0 bad news is it's got a cracked block, what year engines should i look for that would be a direct bolt in replacement? i have tried researching and i believe anything before 92 is not compatible due to having a different flywheel? I located an 88 3.0 locally for a good price what would need to be done to swap the 88 in place of the 97 or would it not be worth the hassle?

Ayuh,.... I believe the crankshaft, 'n it's seal changed in '90, not '92,.... could be wrong though,....

If the flywheel on the older motor is drilled, 'n tapped to accept the coupler used with yer drive/ transom,....
It'll swap right in anyways,....

'course, We're talkin' the basic 3.0l Long Block motors,.... Not fully dressed motors,....
Ignition, manifolds, 'n induction has changed over the years too,....

1991 and later are 1 piece deal.

I would look for a 1991 or later
