So, I don't have the title for either.
I know the perfectly right way to do it, but I just want to get on the water.
If you don't feel comfortable writing in the open forum , send me a pm.

The Luger was a kit boat when initially made and has no number stamped into the hull.
I was planning on registering it as a homemade boat and the same with the trailer.

Is it just that simple?

How to title a homemade boat in the State of New Jersey

To title and/or register a home made boat, visit your local MVC Agency with proof of identification and the following:
  • Original receipts for all parts purchased
  • Notarized statement outlining all construction details
  • Fee payment; $60 standard boat or $85 financed
  • If boat is greater than 12 feet (from bow to stern), it must be titled; therefore, OS/SS-27 form must be completed.
  • If boat is 12 feet or less (from bow to stern), it must only be registered; therefore, BA-51 form must be completed at the MVC Agency.
Note: After the MVC Agency reviews your documents, you will be instructed to have your boat inspected by the NJ State Police, Marine Division. Upon completion of inspection, return to the MVC Agency with the completed ?HIN Investigation Report? form OS/SS-10A.

To register a homemade trailer in the State of New Jersey
To title and/or register a homemade trailer, visit your local MVC Agency with acceptable proof of identification and the following:
  • Original receipts/titles for all parts used
  • Notarized statement containing construction details, parts and material used, and date and location where parts were purchased. If parts were taken from another trailer/vehicle, you must list the VIN?s of the vehicles it was taken from.
  • A certified weight slip
  • Color photographs showing all angles of trailer
  • If trailer weighs more than 2,500 lbs. (unladen), it must be titled; therefore, OS/SS-32 form must be completed.
  • If trailer weighs 2,500 lbs. or less (unladen), it must only be registered; therefore,
BA-49 form must be completed at the MVC Agency.
  • Pay registration fee (Code 22) and title fee, if applicable
The law limits vehicles of this type to the following dimensions:
  • Width: 96 inches
  • Height: 13 feet, 6 inches
  • Length (single vehicle): 35 feet
  • Length ( semi-trailer and towing vehicle): 48 feet
  • Length ( trailer and towing vehicle): 58 feet
When figuring any dimension, safety equipment items (such as mirrors or lights) are not included if they do not exceed the overall limitations.

If the GVWR (including load) is more than 3,000 lbs. or 40% of the towing vehicle's gross weight, the trailer must be equipped with brakes.

Wow... thats really specific.

I think I was hoping for the easy way? ....

What about I present a bill of sale for a homemade boat? And a bill of sale for a homemade trailer?

Does that work?

All you can do is try but...Almost every state that requires titling and registration gets pretty picky when it comes to titling old boats with NO Paperwork!!!

I don't know if they follow all that to the letter here, Chris, A while back I bought a 14' trailer that wasn't homemade, walked into the Oakland, NJ MVA, filled out the reg card and checked off homemade, paid the fee, and walked out with the registration, they may just do the same for ur boat if u check off homemade, unless you get some stugots that thinks hes captain motor vehicle.....and maybe the state police are too busy clearing the way for the Pope to look over a sailboat :D

Thats what I'm gonna try first.
The bill of sale the guy ave me he wrote that he got it from someone else.
What a PIA.

I just want to take this thing out, but don't want to get a ticket on Greenwood lake. I suppose I could just keep the outboard in the cuddy until we really need it.

From what I hear I don't need to register it if there is no motor.
Is this correct?

I deleted your new topic about your title problem

Please refrain from solicitation in the forum or asking for help in illegal activity

Do what is necessary to legally OWN and use your boat. Or dont use it.

I legally own the boat.
And I understand that you don't want to me ask for a title on this site or do anything illegal on this site.

However, what I do off this site is really my business.
And frankly going on my other posts to publicly chastise me is not very cool.

I know In MA if you have a Proof of Sales Tax, Old Registation and Bill Of Sale you can register, there is just a form you have to fill out saying that it is lost and the previous owner needs to sign it.

Yeah. That will work on the trailer.
But I don't even have that.

I met Captain MVC in Oakland today and he gave me a hard time.
So... I will give the trailer reg a shot in Paterson, If I go before lunchtime.

I pulled my old 4 hp Yamaha kicker off the shelf after 10 years. The sucker started up and idled better than it ever did before.
I think it needs a new water pump and it's squirting a little water from around the rubber collar.
Ugh.... Is it so much to ask that everything is just cheap and easy...
Obviously I'm just kidding.
