I posted this in electronics but I was hoping this area would get more ideas.
I have a 1999 Crestliner 16AnglerSC with a side driving console and a 40HP Johnson outboard. Last time I was out a loud high pitch noise (annoying squeal) started coming from under the console. It stayed on for minutes at a time and then would periodically stop. I am getting power to all my accessories and the engine seems to be running fine. It will do it whether the engine is running or not. The source appears to be a small speaker attached to the fusebox. The only sound I have ever heard from the console is a quick chirp when I turn the key just before turning over the engine. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

thanks!

--------------------
Ho

It might be some type of a sensor warning device. If every thing is operating properly, try disconnecting the horn.

like DCT said it's your warning horn. Better check your warning circuit sensors and wiring for a short. somehow you are picking up voltage, if it does it with the key off?

The warning horn is wired through the accessory terminal on you ignition switch. When the key is turned on to run it energizes the warning system. when the sensors fault they ground out and complete the circuit sounding the horn.

If you have a seperate oil resevoir - it may be an alarm you oil level is too low.

Thanks for all your input on this, I was just out working on it and I think I discovered the problem. When I start the motor, the key was staying half way in the start position. Typically when I start the motor, it is just a quick chirp then engine turns over. I think it was trying to tell me that the juice was still on to the starter. It was not all the way over where the starter was turning, but it was getting stuck in between. Once I fiddled with the key, I noticed it would not squeal once I had it in the correct position.

I hope that is all it was, my oil resevior is a little low though, will keep an eye on that.

Thanks again.

sounds like you ignition switch is starting to go south. Sounds like the return spring is weakening. Make sure you don't let it hang up in the start position or you'll spend big bucks on a new starter.

I had a feeling that this was happening with the key on and not off
