Then you need to check with the marina for their requirements (assuming they'd want insurance against fire or damage you might cause whilst docking or puttering around their site), then check what the insurance company offers to meet that need.

Good point.

One more question I have, I want to get a jack plate /12" setback. Its a 17ft, I just got the motor, and relize that its pretty damn big looking on the boat, and want it pushed back out of the boat. It pretruding the transom, and beucase of the low cut transom, Id be able to build it up higher, which would give me MANY benefits in the rough seas. Also the setback would give me better preformence.

With a plate that big you will likely need longer steering and control cables

The steering I have now is already 2ft to long for the boat, and so are the controls I got lol.

Id like to build the transom up, so I can take on rough water better

Honestly atleast 6" back would be the least I would need to put in a flip down door for the transom.

Nice compact looking rig. Not sure I'd change the colour of that vintage motor to white - make it look like a Johnny...

If you do put a setback plate on it, I'll be following with interest.

Look at the new Evinrude colours, you can paint it pink if you want but I would keep it stock. That keeps the vintage flavour to it.

Nice looking rig Chris, very nice. As far as raising the transom and setting the engine back to be able to handle rougher seas I wouldn't. It is a 17 foot boat that should be in conditions that a small boat should be in. Changing any design elements of a manufactured boat may void any insurance you get, actually I was told it definitely will but it is done all the time. Ask your Broker.

Be warned those are salty motors. That was OMCs first attempt at a looper it is a bigger block and they are good runners. They are prop rated motors.

OMC has been marketing Loopers since 1968.

Lots of pictures of 1958 gold / bronze colored mowers are found using Google.-------Lack of computer skill means I do not post pictures.
