is there a place to get the specs or measurements for the original size and thickness of the wood that fits in the transom or is the best way to figure to clean out all the wood and measure the cavity ? is the thickness standard?

The normal way is to clean out all of the mush and dig out any timber that has not yet rotted.

Sand back all of the surrounding surfaces in preparation for the new plywood.

Measure the thickness required and start to build it up from there.

You can glue multi layers in with joins in different positions to build up the thickness. Epoxy Glue works best.

Post photo's and updates and rememer to have fun...

The typical thickness is 1.5". usually two pieces of 3/4" plywood laminated together. Remember not to use pressure treated plywood in an aluminum boat.

Duplicate the thickness that was there. I would just apply a good old ruler and measure.

If the wood is completely missing...... you will find places to properly measure.
