Found two small gashes in the hull today while working on the trailer. Neither goes completely through the hull as best I can tell. Both are about the size of a paperclip or smaller. Any recommendations on an expoxy or resin that can be put on these to smooth them out and prevent further deterioration? I am trying to avoid a full blown fiberglass repair.

If you're NOT looking for PERFECTION and just wanting to gill in the gouges then...use a dremel or a small grinding bit in your drill and clean out the area as best you can and then clean it well with acetone. then go to Ace Hardware and buy some PC-11 Epoxy. It's White, 100% water proof and cures in less than and hour. You won't hardly be able to tell you did the patch. You can sand it with some 220 grit paper afterwards and you'll be all set.

If your actual concern is "further deterioration" then do nothing, there is no need, no further deterioration will take place. Now if you want it to look better, some white epoxy putty from the local hardware store will be somewhat close in color and easy to do. One thing you need to remember when using epoxy is that it is normally much harder to sand than gel coat, so be careful to not sand through the surrounding gel coat when trying to smooth out the epoxy.

You can also buy some gel coat that may match better. iboats sells color matched gel coat for many brands.

A marine epoxy repair should be painted over to protect it from UV breakdown and deterioration.
