At the end of last season the starter motor went. I purchased a new one not OEM but assured it was marine and exact copy. It certainly looked identical. I also removed the Alternator and coil for other reasons.

Just fitted everything back together and it started and ran fine, however the engine continues to run normally if I turn the key off or pull the kill switch. I notice that even when the ignition key is off I have power to the volt meter on the dash and depth gauge. I am sure this did not use to happen.

Any pointers where I have gone wrong. I have the VP manuals and checked the wiring diagram and seem to have everything in the correct place. How should I work this one through?

Regards

Check on your starter where the main battery cable attaches to the starter solenoid (A). See if the battery cable is also contacting the end of the screw (D). It shouldn't.

Thank you I feel an idiot. I put a meter on 'D' and it showed 12v. Took the purple wire off and routed well clear of wires connected to 'A'. Now there is no voltage at 'D'. Instruments off when ignition off and on when ignition on.

Thank you for your help much apprectiate.
