I have just replaced the exhaust manifolds and risers. The elbows (2) in the diagram come with a red substance on the threads and dont leak. The reducer shown as (5) in the diagram has nothing on the threads and drips. What should I put on the threads or should I just tighten. i have the VP white sealing compound for drives and the VP brown flexible gasket cement are either of these suitable?

Regards
Chris

If you are in the habit of leaving the plugs out after winterization or draining, you may have some rust in the threads, When that happens, I just run a tap in them and clean the threads up and then they seal ok. Then, like Bondo says.
